Key Sustainability Takeaways

.

As the world’s largest coffee producer and exporter, Brazil’s evolving market dynamics made it the focus of strategic dialogue at the International Coffee Week (SIC) 2025 in Belo Horizonte (November 5–7).

This event is Latin America’s leading coffee trade fair. The 13th edition’s theme, “Café em Transformação – Inovação, Sustentabilidade e Oferta do Mercado Global,” highlighted the critical importance of collaboration and adaptation.

4C maintained a strong presence to reinforce our position in this key market, gathering insights on the sustainability challenges and opportunities:

Strategic Takeaways and 4C Solutions

The dialogue highlighted four critical areas for the Brazilian coffee sector:

  • Climate resilience & COP30: With Brazil hosting COP30, the coffee sector’s role in addressing carbon emissions and climate resilience is non-negotiable. Evidence of climatic impact (e.g., lower Arabica production) shows the urgency of adaptation.
  • Carbon market opportunity: As the global carbon market grows, Brazilian coffee is in a prime position to quantify and benefit from carbon sequestration and reduction, creating an additional income source through carbon credits. 4C provides options for the sector to capitalise on these opportunities, including the 4C Carbon Footprint solution, which measures and verifies GHG emissions to unlock market potential. We have seen growing interest in this tool, already with active certificates in Brazil, and we anticipate its expansion.
  • Regional progress: While traditional Arabica regions demonstrate advanced sustainability, Conilon farmers in Espírito Santo are showing constant, increasing progress in adopting certification requirements, demonstrating positive sustainability momentum across different regions.
  • Regenerative future: There is strong momentum toward adopting regenerative agriculture principles as a key measure for maximising resource efficiency and future farm resilience. 4C actively promotes and supports the implementation of these principles across its certified units.

We used this crucial platform to strengthen relationships, reinforce 4C’s presence, and connect with new partners committed to scaling up sustainability across the supply chain. We look forward to participating in next year’s SIC!☕🌿
